Event FAQs

  • Traveling to Crook Point is easier than you might expect, especially for a secluded coastal destination. While we’re nestled on a private stretch of the Southern Oregon Coast, guests have several convenient travel options:

    • By Air:

      • Advanced Air, now a partner of Alaska Airlines, offers direct flights to Del Norte County Airport (CEC) from Hawthorne (HHR) in Los Angeles and Oakland (OAK) in the Bay Area. This partnership allows for seamless flight connections and baggage transfers through Alaska Airlines’ booking system. CEC is just 45 minutes south of Crook Point.

      • Advanced Air also offers private charter flights and can help accommodate special requests for large groups, wedding parties, or corporate retreats.

      • Rogue Valley International Airport (MFR) in Medford, OR, is approximately 3 hours away and offers multiple daily flights from major cities.

      • Portland (PDX) and San Francisco (SFO) are also convenient options for those planning a scenic drive.

    • By Car:

      • From Medford: ~3 hours via scenic Highway 199

      • From Eugene: ~4 hours

      • From Portland: ~6 hours via I-5, OR-38 W and Highway 101 OR take the coastal route via Licoln City down HWY 101

      • From San Francisco: ~7 hours north straight up HWY 101

    • Private Flights & Charters:
Guests may also charter private flights into Gold Beach Municipal Airport or Del Norte County Airport (CEC).

While Crook Point is off the beaten path, that’s part of its charm. Our remote setting offers unspoiled coastal beauty, privacy, and a true retreat, yet it’s surprisingly accessible by air or road.

    • Tables: Custom farm tables and banquet tables

    • Climate Control: Patio heaters

    • Entertainment: Lawn games

Estate Package: The Estate Package includes Crook Point’s standard event rentals as part of the package fee, offering a seamless and stress-free planning experience. This package provides access to nearly all event rentals, with the exception of designated premium items. Premium rentals—such as luxury lounge furniture, portable bars, gold flatware, and specialty seating (including Crossback and Louis dining chairs)—are available for an additional fee and must be reserved in advance. All premium items are clearly marked in our event inventory catalog.

Our event rentals cover a broad range of categories to support your celebration:

    • Dining: Place settings, including plates, glassware, and stainless steel flatware

For more details, please review our wedding packages to find the best fit for your special day.

  • Our intent at Crook Point is to create a destination environment for families and friends to easily gather, relax, and celebrate over their stay.   Please reach out to discuss your plans for your entire reservation to ensure we can accommodate those additional celebrations and confirm if any fees or additional conditions are required. Crook Point views an event as any organized gathering at any of the homes, shared spaces, lawn areas, beaches, and venues. To help guests define what Crook Point considers an additional event, we consider it when the following occurs:

    1) includes any offsite guests
    2) exceeds the maximum house occupancy
    3) food, beverage, or additional services are required (including wear and tear, extra cleaning, trash, etc)m description

  • Yes. We contractually require that you hire one of our preferred coordinators or event planners to help curate your celebration. These professionals are deeply familiar with our venue layout, timing considerations, and logistics—ensuring you get the most out of your time at Crook Point. They also maintain strong relationships with trusted local vendors to help you build the ideal team, so you can focus on enjoying your event rather than managing every detail.

For a list of approved professionals, please see our Preferred Vendors page. If you’d like to work with a planner not currently on our list, please reach out in advance to discuss what may be possible.

Because of our remote coastal location, limited nearby services, and multi-site layout, we strongly recommend hiring a full-service planner to help design, coordinate, and manage your celebration from start to finish. If your stay includes multiple events—such as a welcome gathering, rehearsal, ceremony, or farewell brunch—working with one planner across all functions ensures consistency, reduces stress, and allows you to fully enjoy your time at Crook Point.

  • We’re always here to support your time on-site, but our team does not act as planners or coordinators. We do not manage vendors, décor setup, rehearsals, or event timelines.

That said, if we’re notified in advance and there’s a clear gap in service, Crook Point may be able to offer limited consulting support—such as advising on logistics or identifying gaps in vendor coverage—provided those services are discussed and contracted ahead of time. Please note: This does not replace professional planning or day-of coordination.

Because of our remote coastal location, limited nearby services, and multi-site layout, we strongly recommend hiring a full-service planner to help you design, coordinate, and manage your celebration from start to finish.

  • We host events year-round, with our primary wedding season running from May through October. The Oregon Coast enjoys a mild and inviting climate, offering stunning backdrops in every season. While weather can be unpredictable, that’s part of the beauty—each time of year has its own unique charm.

Spring & Early Summer (May–June): These months bring a gorgeous mix of sunny days and light coastal breezes, with wildflowers in full bloom and lush green landscapes. Temperatures typically range from the mid-50s to high 60s, making for comfortable outdoor celebrations.

Midsummer & Early Fall (July–October): The late summer and early fall months are some of the most spectacular times on the coast, with warm days, crisp evenings, and minimal rain. September and October often experience a late-season warming trend, much like the San Francisco Bay Area, with mild temperatures and breathtaking sunsets. Any rain that does appear tends to be light and fleeting.

Late Fall & Winter (November–February): The cooler months bring a more dramatic coastal atmosphere, with misty mornings, moody skies, and the occasional storm rolling through—perfect for intimate elopements and cozy gatherings.

No matter when you book, Crook Point offers a stunning natural setting that makes every season special. For historical weather trends, visit Intellicast and use the 97415 zip code to explore Brookings' unique microclimate.

  • For those living out of state, we have confirmed that our county (Curry) will make exceptions to the 3-day waiting period for marriage licenses as long as you schedule an appointment ahead of time, making your wedding or elopement easy in our area. For more information, please inquire directly with the Curry County Clerk's Office.

  • At Crook Point, we will have two weddings at Arch Rock Main Lawn per week, usually on Saturday and Tuesday. With our two-and-a-half-day venue rental, we want our clients to have space, preventing a rushed setup, rehearsal, event day, and breakdown. This venue timeframe complements our home rental periods, which are also a three-night minimum for most of the calendar year.

If we have events at our other small venues, they will usually be on different days. We do our best to schedule only one wedding on any given day but there are no guarantees.

  • Item descripDue to Arch Rock Main Lawn's seclusion, we allow amplified music until midnight; the last call is 11:15 p.m. Please inquire for more details for our other venues as the curfew various per location.tion

  • Yes, your puppy can attend your celebration, as we are extremely dog-friendly as we are working cattle ranch. Please review our Pet Policy HERE.

We charge per dog and ask that dogs be crated when left alone in the homes. Please remember to pick up any dog waste and we have dog bags at our homes and venue. Please note: no pets are allowed at Lookout.

  • Beach Fires are usually allowed year-round in our particular section of the coast, but please verify during the summer months. Beach fires must only be on the sand in designated fire rings and away from any piles of driftwood. Please also take note of our 10 p.m. curfew so as not to disturb other Crook Point guests staying in the area. Please review the estimated tide schedule during your stay to get a better idea of how much of the beach will be accessible.

  • The wedding couple can access The Cove Beach for an intimate photo session. Please share your itinerary with our team and share your plans if you want to leverage other areas of the property.

  • Oregon Coast weather can be moody, so we encourage Clients to monitor the weather closely before their event. If the weather is projected to be less than perfect, then we recommend a tent rental vendor be contracted. At Arch Rock Main Lawn, we have prepared an area to accommodate event tents up to 40x100ft.

Our coast can experience heavy rainfall, and the lawn takes time to dry out, even in the summer months. Crook Point will determine if the lawn is acceptable for use or if the tent area is required for the reception setup of all tables and chairs for the cocktails, reception, and dancing portion of the event. At Crook Point’s discretion, if the lawn is too wet from rain, then all components outside the ceremony must be set up in the venue's tent area.

At both Byrdies and Mervue, smaller tents can be accommodated in front of the homes, and due to the event sizes, the homes could be arranged to accommodate the reception indoors.

  • Crook Point provides tours and walkthroughs by appointment only.  Please select SCHEDULE to book your appointment. Remember, we are on a private family estate and usually cannot accommodate same-day or walk-in appointments.

Out of courtesy, we ask that you please inform us at least 24 hours in advance if you have made an appointment but can no longer make it.

  • We offer virtual meetings to explain our services and how to best leverage Crook Point as your destination wedding venue. To schedule a virtual meeting, select SCHEDULE. If you can’t find a time that works best for you and your fiancé’s schedule, please reach out, and we’ll find a mutually agreeable time.

Please review our package information before booking an appointment. If you can’t make the originally scheduled time, please inform us before the meeting time—don’t stand us up!

  • We can provide virtual tours upon request. In collaboration with A Beautiful Union, we have a spectacular venue tour overview of Crook Point. We also have specific venues and home video tours available. Please select the Homes and Venues tabs to view these tours.

  • Please send us your inquiry via CONTACT US and schedule a time with our team.

  • Arch Rock Main Lawn is available for 2 1/2 days, providing ample time to set up and break down the event. Unlike most wedding venues, this is intentional, as we prefer to book only one event at the same venue over a weekend. As a destination venue, we want to provide ample time for couples and their guests to enjoy our estate so you don’t feel rushed with ridged timelines.

Byrdies and Mervue are available based on the lodging time period. For other ceremony/elopement locations, please email OUR VENUE TEAM to understand the specific availability.

  • Please email OUR VENUE TEAM to understand what dates are available. We have several venues that accommodate various event sizes.

  • Yes, many couples come in from all over the country to stay in our unique location, hiring an elopement photographer to capture their majestic and intimate ceremony surrounded by the Giant California Redwoods. Here is a link for more information about these ceremonies.

  • We currently have six beautifully curated themes to choose from when booking our intimate event packages. These can be modified, and once you book your event, you will be working closely with Becca to make adjustments based on your preferences

  • Crook Point & Events with Becca have put together a getting-started guide to lay out the process for planning your event, whether it is a month or one year away.

  • At Arch Rock Main Lawn, no homes are required to host your event, providing flexibility for our clients. When booking Byrdies Lawn & Mervue Estate, lodging is priced separately and Clients can book those Venues for hourly rentals or for a full event. Depending on their lodging needs, clients can book none, some, or all of our homes.

  • To guarantee any homes, they must be included in the event contract. However, this is not a requirement. If Clients prefer to have guests book homes directly, they can do so via our website.

If we are not contracting for all desired homes, we encourage all Clients to book sooner rather than later to guarantee their preferred homes as they can book up to 2+ years in advance, especially in the high-demand summer months and holidays.

  • At Crook Point, we want to make planning a destination event easy. We have extensive event items available, including heaters, lawn games, lounge furniture, chandeliers, arbors, and pergolas. Please review our current Event Rental Inventory for a list of items and quantities.

This exciting update to our services commences with events contracted after January 24, 2024, so you don’t feel like there are add-ons after booking our estate. We still offer al-a-carte venue packages to provide flexibility for our couples.

For any additional events hosted onsite other than the contracted venue, please confirm if any fees apply and note prices are subject to change.

  • Weddings are special events, not typical stays or vacations, especially on our private family oceanfront estate. At Crook Point, we know what is involved logistically, which is one reason we include event rentals in our packages. We also understand the liabilities when hosting a wedding event in Oregon, including the requirements for serving alcohol no matter the size.

We also include our event rental inventory in the venue fee, including our custom farm tables & pergolas, vintage & modern furniture, chandeliers, and many other decor. (For events contracted starting Jan 24, 2024)

In addition, Airbnb doesn't allow events of any kind and won’t allow groups above 16. VRBO hosts will sometimes allow events, but they must be noted to the host before arrival. If not noted correctly, the booking can warrant a cancellation by the host. We have had many groups come to Crook Point at the last minute after experiencing these cancellations.

  • Crook Point requires a 50% non-refundable booking fee that includes the venue, damage deposit, and vacation homes. We work with clients on custom payment schedules upon request. Please request a draft contract for your preferred event date and venue to better understand our policies and guidelines.

  • Yes, we require event insurance, and if alcohol is served, hosted liquor liability and most homeowners insurance policies will cover events. In addition, below are some online insurance options to help you with this requirement we have worked with each one, providing our company details and insurance requirements:

  • Service fees are usually added to the contract at most venues, which can surprise couples. This fee is in addition to any gratuities a couple may want to give.

Crook Point has included a 15% service fee in our venue pricing, and we include this upfront to minimize additional costs after booking our location.

  • At this time, Crook Point does not provide setup/breakdown services unless you have booked an intimate elopement or petite wedding package.

  • Yes, we allow you to bring your own vendors, but they must be licensed and insured for some categories. Due to our remote location, we intend to provide flexibility so your event can be exactly what you envision.

We do have a short list of vendors that we will not allow back onsite and please inquire directly with us for more information.

  • Clients must hire a fully licensed caterer for all events. No catering is allowed out of the vacation homes.

We have a catering trailer available for daily rental at Arch Rock Main Lawn and another small kitchen at the Pistol River Friendship Hall. Please inquire directly for more information.

  • Proving vendor meals is customary for all those hardworking vendors taking care of your event. Please be sure to have your caterer make a little extra for those onsite and have some place settings in the vendor tent for them to use. Crook Point will usually have 1-2 folks on the property during your event, and please make sure to work with all your vendors to have an accurate count of those needing a meal during the celebration.

  • Per the Oregon Liquor Control Commission, all weddings must have a licensed and insured bartender with a current OLCC server permit

At Crook Point, we also require that this important vendor not be a family member or friend.

  • Yes, we allow clients to bring their own alcohol for their events, but a licensed and insured Oregon Liquor & Cannabis Commission (OLCC) bartender is required for all events (rehearsal, wedding, etc.). Please note that we DO NOT allow Cannabis on our estate: homes, venues, beaches, etc

  • Corporate event clients can certainly opt for a no-host bar; however, a special event liquor license is required when charging for drinks, and this is in addition to the event insurance with hosted liquor liability. For wedding events, we require that the client host the bar.

For more information about OLCC requirements, please check the OLCC site. An OLCC Special Event License is needed at special events when:

    • Alcohol will be sold.

    • Alcohol is available (but not being sold), and you are charging or accepting donations for admission, or where payment is required to attend the event.

    • Here is the link to the application.

    • The application needs to be submitted to the Curry County Commissioners for approval and then sent to the local OLCC office in Coos Bay, OR.

  • Yes, we have internet access venues, including our Arch Rock Main Lawn venue with a beta version of Starlink provided by SpaceX. Speeds vary and can be up to 200 Mbps, allowing for remote working. Despite these technological improvements, we recommend using your time at Crook Point to disconnect from everyday life.

  • Cell reception is limited at Crook Point, making it the ideal retreat to get away from it all. Verizon, AT&T, and US Cellular are more reliable carriers, and there is some service at a few of the more westerly homes. Please ensure your guests have the directions before leaving for your celebration. WIFI is available at all homes and venues so please configure your phones for WIFI calling upon arrival.

  • We host events at multiple locations and on our large private oceanfront estate. Once you have booked your venue, you’ll receive the exact location and address(s) to help with vendor estimates and directions. Here is a property map showing the venue and home locations.

Please note our business mailing address is the only location published; however, we don’t have any events at this location.

  • At Arch Rock Main Lawn, we have two stainless steel bathrooms installed in a building. They are fully plumbed with running hot and cold water. The rule of thumb is one bathroom for every 50 guests. We also have two basic porta potties that are serviced regularly and are for overflow.

  • Arch Rock's Main Lawn is flat and without stairs. A 6-foot-wide walkway leads to the lawn from the main entrance. The venue has two bathrooms that are not officially ADA.

The main level of Mervue Estate is on level ground, and access to the lower section is easily accessible with no stairs. There is also a half bath on the main floor.

Byrdies Beach Lawn is relatively flat. There are several stairs to access the house's front entrance. The deck also has a few stairs to climb.

Please contact the contact to discuss your specific event needs directly.

  • The five homes at The Cove are all within walking distance of each other. The remaining three homes are on different road entrances off US HWY 101, and each driveway is about 1/2 mile from each other. Walking is technically possible but not recommended, and the distance from door to door via car is about 5 minutes. Here is a property map to help better understand the estate.
